Frequently asked questions ....
How long will my appointment last? Each appointment lasts for 50 minutes. We would usually aim to see one another at the same time each week, in order to organise ourselves around the commitment to counselling. If you come late for your session, I am not able to `run over' into the next appointment time, and we will finish at our agreed time as usual.
What will each session be like? I will be consistent and committed to hearing whatever you would like to bring. The content and the feel of each session is very much influenced by your goals, and the psychological approach we have agreed to adopt in order to meet your particular needs.
How long will I need to come for sessions? This is something that we will work out together. Specific issues or problems may well be responsive to change within a time limited period, for example 6-12 sessions. Other more general issues may take longer, six months or even more. I am experienced in working for both short and long term periods of time, and will be looking with you at your
Individual Needs. In keeping with Ethical Practice, I am opposed to keeping people in therapy for longer than it is of benefit. We can work together for as long as we both agree it is useful to you.
Will I need to pay for missed or cancelled sessions? I rely on payment either in advance of the sessions or at them. Sessions which are cancelled with less than 48 hours notice will need to be paid for.
What can you tell me about the Professional Body regulating your work? I am working towards accreditation by the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). Information about psychotherapy and counselling, and about UKCP standards can be found on their website. I would recommend having a look for yourself on
www.psychotherapy.org.uk.
